The Call

Release date: 20th September 2013

Top billing: Halle Berry, Evie Thompson, Abigail Breslin

A 911 operator takes a life altering, emergency call from a teenage girl that is about to be kidnapped and so begins a race against time to save her.

I sat down expecting an action thriller and it started well enough, we saw a previous call that led to the death of a young girl and the operator is now in a position to save a teenage girl caught in a deadly game. I like the premise that the girl was in constant contact with the operator and it created the tension that drove the film. That said, as time passes you have to think why the operator makes the decisions she does. I know if they didn’t make stupid decisions the film would be very short, but in this kind of film where it is supposed to be gritty, realistic I just kept thinking why. Why would you do that and not speak to the police at the scene or lose your phone at the most inopportune moment and then the end ...

The acting wasn’t bad, nothing special and it came across as a run of the mill thriller. Not one that I will be revisiting.
